Patriot High School will pilot a program called Second Chance Breakfast, beginning February 1, 2017. The program has been implemented at several PWCS high schools and provides students with an opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast quickly and on the go! The program is designed for the students that do not eat breakfast before school starts or those who are hungry at the midpoint of the morning.
When and Where is Second Chance Breakfast?
Between the 1st and 2nd block of the day (8:50-9:05 a.m.), students can grab a quick breakfast (limited menu items) at the intersection of door 3 and the English hallway. It will be by the stairs. A second location will be added later in the month.
How does Second Chance Breakfast work?
Students use their student ID number (no cash allowed) to purchase a breakfast. Free and reduced costs are available to those who have qualified through Food Services. Please note that any student will be charged $2 if they have already purchased a school breakfast that day, making their Second Chance breakfast their second breakfast of the day. The line will be shut off at exactly 9:05 a.m. Students who purchased a second chance breakfast will be sent to class after purchasing their food. Students who are not in line at 9:05 a.m. will not be issued a pass to class.
What do I do with the food I just bought?
Discretion is left up to the teacher as to whether or not the student will eat the breakfast items in the classroom, or finish it outside and then enter the classroom. Whether eating in the hall or classroom, students should take care to not leave trash or food laying around or disrupt the learning environment as they enter the classroom.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our online survey to determine interest in this program. We are hopeful the opportunity to eat a healthy breakfast will improve academic performance for our students.
