On 3/17 16 teams from the SeaPerch Underwater Robotics Club, Mr. Quast’s PLTW Engineering class and Mr. Surbers Production Systems class competed at the Regional SeaPerch Challenge at the PWCS Aquatics Center. 5 Patriot teams earned medals in the seven individual categories, 7 teams finished in the top 10 of the overall regional challenge and 5 teams earned spots to compete at the National Challenge in May at Georgia Tech.
Finishing 1st overall and earning a National birth were the Salty Sea Sharks. Team members: Ryan Miller, Matthew Trang, Jarret Lash and Alex Chaves medaled in 5 individual categories: Gold in Innovation Design; Silver in Derby, Engineering Notebook and logo; Bronze in Recovery
Finishing 3rd overall and earning a National birth were the Electric Seals. Team members D’Art Richard and Keshave Bhaduria
Finishing 4th overall and earning a National birth were Hydrophobes. Team members Madeline Jones, Isaac Pleet and Ryan Sekely
Finishing 5th overall and earning a National birth were the Fluffy SealZ. Team members Ales Michas, Sharif Al-Qutob and Curtis Munson medaled in 2 individual categories: Gold in Obstacle course and Bronze in Speed
Finishing 6th overall and earning a National birth were the Quacker Oates. Team members Andrew Reynolds, Zach Kim, Hahnbee Lee and Nathan Yang
Finishing 7th overall and earning 1st alternate to Nationals were The Sirens. Team members Neva Hafeez, Frances Truong and Olivia Wegley medaled in 1 individual category: Gold in Logo Design
Finishing 9th overall and earning 3rd alternate to Nationals were the Waterdragons.
Also earning individual medals were teams:
KWG-7, members Elisabeth Waggoner, Ben Kropff and Daniel Gigi medaled in 2 categories: Silver in Innovation Deisgn and Bronze in Engineering Notebook.
Team Leviathan, members Chris Vasel and Allen Reid medaled in 1 category: Silver in Speed
